Patricia Friel is a Professional Clinical Counselor and a
Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor concentrating in adolescent,
individual, group counseling. She is currently involved in a variety of
concerns. These include issues surrounding addictions with co-existing mood
disorders (e.g., bipolar and depression), anxiety, grief issues, and life
adjustment. She is an experienced presenter in stress management, communication
skills, anger management, and substance abuse issues.
Patricia earned a Masters of Science degree in Mental
Health Counseling from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Her
undergraduate degree is in Health Education, Secondary Education, from Ohio
University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She is certified by the Bethel
Bible Study program to teach Old Testament and New Testament in a congregational
setting. Patricia has completed coursework at both United Theological Seminary
in Dayton, Ohio and Duke University in pastoral counseling and church history.
Due to her time as student pastor and Parish Assistant she
is well prepared to work with a broad range of people with varying spiritual
needs in many congregational settings. She is also equipped to work with
multicultural populations due to her past counseling experiences while working
with Teen Challenge in New York City and southeastern Ohio. Her multicultural
experience includes working with Black Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans,
and the Appalachian culture.
In addition to having a private practice, Patricia has
worked as a mental health counseling specialist and as a substance abuse
counselor for state funded community organizations. She has experience in the
criminal justice system as well.
Patricia is a published author and a past adjunct
professor in the AIM program at Ohio Christian University in Circleville, Ohio.
She is also actively involved in developing curriculum for various programs for
the university and other entities.
